Waiting on some good news...

No word yet on our I-600 approval. Last we heard, the Consulate in Vietnam requested some additional paperwork, but didn't tell us what it was, just told us to "send the missing document ASAP." Agggh! It didn't tell us what that was, nor did they respond to our requests for clarification. Our agency has intervened for us to try and help, but apparently the Consultate is a bit understaffed and overwhelmed. So we wait. And hope. and wait some more.

On a happy note, several adoptive parents just got word of their G & R (giving and receiving) date. That is the official ceremony after you have traveled and met your child, when you and your adopted child are "official". It also means "get your bags packed", because you leave for Vietnam right away--like next week! These parents are all on pins and needles too, because they haven't received their I-600 approvals either, and if they don't get it in the next couple of days, they don't get to travel, and have to reschedule their G&R. Lots of anxiety for these folks. I hope they hear something soon. From a somewhat self-serving perspective, it's also a time when I can send Sam our photo album to start getting used to our faces, and the parents that are there can take some updated pics of Sam for us! Thanks, Kim!

The JCICS meeting in D.C. was overall a positive one, according to reports. I believe the general attitude is that there will be a continued working relationship between the two countries for the benefit of orphans there. The meeting focused on improving /standardizing certain ethical guidelines and fees for the adoption process from Vietnam. We all have anxiety regarding our own particular situation, but certainly applaud the efforts to keep the well-being of the children as the highest priority.

Well, certainly I'll keep things posted. I'm hoping for some good news soon, Sam.
